Relationship education is an important part of a Registered Marriage Celebrant's job. When we're applying to be registered, one of the factors taken into consideration is if we're committed to advising couples of the availability of relationship resources and support services.

I share these resources with all my couples throughout the marriage process, however I thought I would make this information even more accessible by sharing on my website as well.

Relationship Resources for couples - Courses and Counselling

Relationship courses and counselling can help set up and maintain a strong and healthy relationship. Below are some links to resources that can help with your relationship, both before your marriage and throughout your journey through life together.

An Australian Government Initiative to help families build better relationships. The website has many online resources available including information on counselling and links to support services. You can also call the Australian Government Family Relationship Advice Line: 1800 050 321

A leading provider of relationship support services for individuals, families and communities. Aims to support all people in Australia to achieve positive and respectful relationships.

Western Australian Relationship Resources

Relationships WA

Relationship education and courses for relationships at all stages available online and in-person. Their Prepare-Enrich course is a customised couple assessment completed online, followed by a number of feedback sessions with a facilitator to discuss and understand the outcomes of the questionnaire.

Anglicare WA

Relationship Education, counselling and courses for relationships at all stages.

Nicole is a Perth-based relationship coach who is passionate about working with people to achieve their relationship goals. Her Connect and Reflect  pre-marriage coaching series is recommended.

Why should Marriage Celebrants share relationship resources?

Section 6 of The Code of Practice for Marriage Celebrants states:

A marriage celebrant must:

1. maintain an up-to-date knowledge about appropriate family relationships services in the community; and

2. inform the parties to the marriage about the range of information and services available to them to enhance, and sustain them throughout, their relationship.

This is expanded on in the Guidelines on the Marriage Act 1961 for Registered Marriage Celebrants. It states:

Item 6 of the Guidelines – requires Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrants to maintain up-to-date knowledge about the range of information and services designed to enhance and sustain marrying couples throughout their relationship, not just in the period immediately preceding the marriage ceremony.

Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrants must also inform marrying couples about this range of services. Meeting this obligation requires ongoing action by Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrants. The family relationship services

available in their area should be reviewed by them annually at least to ensure the

information they provide to marrying couples is up-to-date.

Relationship education is an important consideration when you're preparing to get married, and throughout your marriage.
